Transforming Drug Discovery & Development Through Innovation:
Past, Present and Future
October 1 - 4, 2012
Sheraton Bucks County Hotel
Langhorne, PA
Session Synopsis
Thursday, 1:30 pm
Alternative Instrumentation
Discussion Leader: Kevin Bateman, Merck
The analytical workhorse for most Pharma related sample analysis continues to be liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry. However we need to look beyond that technology in order to solve new and challenging analytical problems. This session will highlight three technologies that are either new to the market or not yet commercially available. Two are mass spectrometry based, the CyTOF which is an ICP-MS based flow cytometer and LAESI DP-1000, a direct ionization tool for profiling the distribution of biomolecules. The third technology, ICOGS (inter cavity optogalvanic spectroscopy) is a bench-top laser based technique for Carbon-14 detection at Accelerator Mass Spectrometry sensitivities.
